Ballina 13south (Sat 25/7/15)
The team travelled to Casino last weekend for what may turn out to be a grand final match up. Ballina started strong and were 3-nil up soon after half time. A goal to Casino saw their team spirit lift and with some great triangle passing were cutting through our defence to be 3-3 just before full time. We had our chances with a few attempts bouncing off the woodwork but it was Casino who managed to get the final goal just before the whistle. Great effort all round and a very exciting match to watch, well done team, see you all this weekend for a double header.
Ballina 16s (Fri 31/7/15)
Friday evening the 16s opens ventured to Alstonville. Again as a team we battled hard. Zaiden played solidly in goals, Todd was solid in defence, George & Reuben battled well in the midfield supported by Nathan. Joel was tenacious on the wing with a number of good runs. Korbyn stood out up the front and was just wide with a strong shot on goal that had the keeper beaten. Nathan took a clever free kick with a little chip just over the wall to meet a run made by Reuben who lost traction and slid to the ground just as it appeared that he had a golden opportunity to slip one past the keeper. A defensive error late in the first half saw us go 1-0 down. Our first touch continues to let us down so we struggle to maintain possession for any sustained period. Despite some bright play early in the second half we were unable to convert any chances. Good effort guys
Ballina 16s (Sun 2/8/15)
Today the 16s opens played Lismore Thistles away in a catch up game. A number of our team were unavailable so Andre, Connor & Kye from the 15s helped us out. It was a close well fought game. We made a good start until our backs were outdone for speed in a counter attack and we went 1-0 down after just 8 minutes. The boys steadied the ship and we came in still 1-0 at the break. Coach Ian was happy with the first half effort and urged for even more in the second half. Connor was fouled while making a probing run. Reuben shot at goal from the resulting free kick and although the keeper got his hands to it, the ball went in! The boys held on bravely towards the end in hot conditions without any substitutions as our only sub was injured and needed to sit out most of the game. However with only 2 minutes remaining Thistles scored from a corner and we went down 2-1. A much improved effort by the team with some good passing and the ability to hold possession a little better. Andre made some excellent saves, Todd stood out in the defence, ably assisted by Jye, Kye and Jacob. The mid-field of George, Connor & Reuben combined well and fought hard in defence. Joel, Zane, Tony and Korbyn gave whole hearted efforts up front. Well done everyone and a big thanks to the 15s for their help.
Ballina 13south (Sat 25/7/15)
The weekend provided beautiful soccer weather and allowed us to play 2 games. Saturday we played our home game against Alstonville and after a shaky start we won comfortably 8-nil. Sunday was a catch up game against Thistles. This proved to be an even match up with Thistles scoring first and then Ballina replying from the restart. It looked likely to be heading for a 1-1 draw with only a few minutes left. Ballina kept up the pressure and some great lead up passing led to a burst down the right side with a looping ball over the keepers head to put us 2-1 up. Great team effort in the second half, under hot conditions, well done to all.
