Ballina 13s South have started the new round like they left off with an 11 nil win over G-Bah. While we started slow the team hit their strides and with great lead up work scored many goals. Not much for the backs to do this week and with the keeper playing as a sweeper it was up to the forwards to do all the running. Good combination passing and some inventive scissor and overhead attempts. As always an encouraging team spirit, well done.
The Ballina 16s opens played away against Italo Stars on Saturday. The Stars are in second place on the ladder and so it was likely to be a hard game. It certainly proved to be that when we went down a goal just 3 minutes in. The boys battled well despite limited possession. The Stars held possession very well and applied pressure on the ball when without it. In the 22nd minute the continued pressure told and the Stars scored again. At half time it was 2 nil but the Ballina boys were enjoying their game and giving it their best. The Stars posted another 2 goals in the 2nd half scoring in the 54th and 64th minute to run out winners 4 nil. It was a good clean game with a combined total of only 4 fouls from both teams. Ballina never stopped trying and made a couple of good attempts at goal but weren’t able to score this week. There was some good passing at times and some strong defence. We need to keep working on our passing and control. A very good effort and a pleasing game to watch. Well done.
Well no big report for G11 Ospreys this week just a big thank you to everyone who organised Sunday’s carnival in such difficult conditions. You can tell by the smiles on our faces that we had a great time despite the weather. Every game is a chance to learn something and have alot of fun.
