Ballina Grade 12 Ospreys (Coach Gary Bond)
Great start for the year for U12 Ospreys playing competition for the first time & being all U11s winning 6-1 against Mullumbimby. Down 0-1 in 2minutes the boys dominated the game & should have by more. The teamwork was amazing to watch for such a young group of boys and I look forward to the season ahead.
Ballina Grade 6 Seahorses (Coach Jason Connell)
We travelled to Alstonville to play the Bilbies that have renamed themselves the Numbats. Ground and weather conditions were perfect for the team to enjoy the kickoff into their competitive soccer life. The first game as a team for all boys involved, and a nice way to start with all parents attending with a strong support base. The boys all played well with great game flow, passing the ball around and maintaining a nice spread around the field. They were constantly on attack and the ball spent plenty of time up the other end, although plenty of opportunities were had, only one goal was scored, by Jake, and Alstonville made a few good runs and managed to net 3. A big second half kickoff by Aidan lifted the ball far up into the defensive half and gave the team a good run, with Kyran chasing the ball through and channelling the legendary Arsenal with his every motion. Tristan and Byron were in amongst it constantly battling for the ball and passing it around to the team, and Jack had a few good runs that kept Alstonville on the chase. At the end of the game, both teams shook hand and cheered Alstonville on their win and thanked them for a great game.
Ballina Grade 16 (Manager David Scott)
The 16s boys had a very encouraging start last night with their first game in division 1. Despite solid defence early, excellent keeping from Zaiden and some skilful passing at times they found themselves 2 – nil down at half time. The first of those goals conceded was a penalty when a full-back had just come on and mis-timed a tackle. Coach Ian encouraged them at half time. They did a great job to come back to 2 – all with goals from Joel and Zane following good lead-up play from Nathan. Lennox Head scored again but after a free kick from Zane which was met by a diving header from Reuben it was locked at 3 – all. Unfortunately with a minute to go Lennox scored again and it finished 4 – 3. A great first up effort with a few things to work on during the season.
Ballina Grade 6 Turtles (Coach Garth Andrews)
We were very excited to get out on a sunny day after missing last weekend. Being our very first game, we were unsure how we would go. We travelled to Tintenbar to play the Swordfish with Turtles doing exceptionally well in enthusiasm and effort. A very surprised coach was most impressed with knowledge of the rules and sportsmanship. Quite a few of the Turtles managed to score their very first goal. Everybody said they were looking forward to next week.
Ballina Grade 7 Seahorses (Coach James Britton)
Ballina Grade 10 Seahorses (Coach Nathan Henderson)
Well it was a promising start to the season has the under 10s Seahorses travelled to Alstonville last Saturday to play the T-Rexs. There was a few nervous players as it was the first time they played soccer with the team but they all played well, unfortunately Alstonville were too good but the Seahorses tried very hard and had fun. Everyone is excited for this weekends game at home.
